Hello everyone! I'm glad to announce that the development of the ilo nena project has been completed successfully!
ilo nena is a physical USB Keyboard with built-in Wakalito input method. It can type out sitelen pona unicode of toki pona to Windows/Linux/Macos computers.
It's fully open source, with the source of enclosure, firmware, PCBA, etc. It also has full instruction on how to make your own unit.
The first batch's ready. 4pcs available for the US, 3pcs available for the rest of the world.
Tentatively I'm gonna sell that for US$25 per unit plus shipping fee, which is US$7 except for the US. It's only avaiable for purchase to fellow Toki Pona speakers.
I commit that if the demand of all of my projects combined is less than 30pcs per year, I offer free labor for the project and all profit made will be used for giveaways.
If the demand exceeded that momentarily, there's some leeways and I'll probably continue to offer free labor. In the unlikely case that the high demand sustains, I'll make announcement in reasonable time before taking any profit.
Here's why I plan to do giveaways: In the previous project ilo nanpa, I tried doing a name-your-own-price model and it failed because people kept pumping in money and not willing to take discounts nor free units. Technically speaking I also took US$5 profit for each unit but the defective rate were too high due to design limitation and I ended up having no profit.
After finishing the remaining works of this project, I think I'll find a time to do a remake of ilo nanpa to make it easier to assemble, having higher reliability and more polished.
